Descrizione: Arrival of the NCO candidates in Wetzlar. The soldiers are expected at Wetzlar station by the gendarme Otto Wallenreich, among others. After the arrival of the train, dignitaries, including the administrative officer of the Wetzlar District Command, welcome the NCO candidates. The troop with the commanding captain, his adjutant and the company lieutenant leaves the station without a formation, walks through Bahnhofstraße and takes up position on Domplatz. Because the mayor of Wetzlar is prevented from attending on this day, the first aide, Siegmund Hiepel, walks the formation with the commander. The troops march off. The film was later recomposed and set to music by Paul Görnert. Since the 1910s, Oskar Barnack, the inventor of the Leica, has captured events around Wetzlar on film with his self-constructed film camera. He documented flood disasters, city festivals, medical experiments, sporting events and the company where he was employed as chief designer: the Optical Works Ernst Leitz in Wetzlar. His films form the basis of a film archive in which local history has the same place as the effects of great historical events.
